Aarhus Symphony Orchestra

Chief Conductor: Giancarlo Andretta
General Manager: Palle Kjeldgaard

The Aarhus Symphony Orchestra is a regional Symphony Orchestra with a wide range of activities: Concerts, CD recordings, touring and collaboration with a large number of institutions.

The core activity of the orchestra is the performance of symphonic concerts. In addition to this, the orchestra gives a number of free Saturday Matinées, family concerts and chamber concerts.

In August 2007 the ASO moved in to it's brand new concert hall the Symphonic Hall at Musikhuset Aarhus (Concert Hall Aarhus). For the first time ever the orchestra will now be able to rehearse and give concerts in the same hall. The world-famous Danish violinist Nikolaj Znaider was the first soloist to perform with the orchestra and he didn't hesitate to call the Symphonic Hall a "first class concert hall". The hall is designed by the Danish architects C.F. Møller, and together with COWI the well-reputed company ARTEC has formed the acoustics of the hall. There are 1176 seats in the new hall, and an important source of inspiration is  the Golden Hall og the Musikverein in Vienna.
During the concert season, the ASO also performs a large number of school concerts and concerts for the elderly. And additionally the ASO accompanies the performances of Den Jyske Opera (The Danish National Opera) and gives concerts at the SPOR Festival of contemporary music.

Amateur choirs, children’s choirs, senior-school choirs and the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus all collaborate with the orchestra at one or more concerts during the season, and in addition to this, the orchestra has a continuous collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music Copenhagen.

In addition to the concerts, CD recordings form an important part of the activities of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra throuhgout the season.
