With means from Statens Kunstfond (The Danish Governments Art Foundation) the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra has had co-operations with different composers, who thus becomes the Composer-in-Residence of the orchestra of that particular season.

The composer-in-residence for the 2004/05 season was Niels Marthinsen. 5 September 2004 the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra performed an opera suite from his new opera Skriftestolen (the Confessional).

Composer-in-residence in the 2003/04 season was Niels Rosing-Schow. 
During the season 2002-03 Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen was composer-in-residence. 

Hans Peter Stubbe Teglbjærg is appointed composer-in-residence for the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra during the period 2009-2011. His first piece for the orchestra was an orchestral work for mezzosoprano and orchestra, Voice of Dhruva, (First Performance Spor Festivalen 7. May 2009). The next will be a symphonic piece with first performance in 2011.
